Crittenton to Host Third Annual Founding Father's 5K Trail Race

Crittenton Services, Inc. will host its third annual Founding Father’s 5K Race on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Grand Vue Park, Moundsville, WV.

The Founding Father’s Trail Run/Walk is a distinctive event that offers a challenging off-road running and walking experience.  The scenic 3.1 mile groomed course winds through some of WV’s most spectacular hiking trails at Grand Vue Park, beginning and ending adjacent to the Red Barn.

The run/walk is a timed event and broken down into age groups: 13 and under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Prizes will be awarded for the top male and female finishers in each age category. The top three overall males and females will receive an event trophy.  All participants receive a DRI-FIT™ t-shirt and a light lunch provided by Mason Dixon BBQ after the race.

Door prizes from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Howard Long Wellness Center, Vagabond Kitchen, Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, TJ’s Sports Garden and the Washington Wild Things will also be offered.

“The race is a family event. Because it honors fathers, we get dads, kids and families running together, which is unique bonding experience,” says Cathy Byers, Director of Marketing. “The event is growing each year, with more participants and more local sponsors who so generously support the work of Crittenton.” 

WesBanco is the Platinum/Title sponsor for the event. Gold sponsors are the Ziegenfelder Company and Gold, Khourey and Turak. Runners and walkers can pre-register online at or by calling 304-242-7060 x 164. Participants are also able to register in-person the day of the event beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Grand Vue. The registration fee is $35. Payment can only be made by cash or check for those registering the day of the event.

The race supports programs that provide behavioral health services for West Virginia citizens. Each year, Crittenton serves more than 1600 clients through its residential treatment programs and Wellspring Family Services, the agency’s outpatient counseling division.
